Disaster Course Overview

Introduction to Disaster Services

The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about disaster and it effects, to outline the role of agencies and volunteers in disaster relief, and to introduce the participants to the American Red Cross Disaster Services. ERV: Ready, Set, Roll!
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to safely and effectively use an emergency response vehicle (ERV) and its equipment to meet feeding and other service needs of the people affected by disaster.

 

Mass Care: An Overview

The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about the activities of the Mass Care function. Participants will learn about the skills and abilities needed by Mass Care workers and how they can get started in their local chapter.

 

Family Service: Providing Emergency Assistance
The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the Family Services function. You will learn the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview.

Logistics                                                                                                                                                                                              The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities and processes of the Logistics function in support of an American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by Logistics workers and how they can get started in their local Chapter.

Logistics Simulation                                                                                                                                                                         The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful logistical operation in their local chapter.The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful logistical operation in their local chapter.                                                                                                                                                           

Weapons of Mass Destruction/ Terrorism: An Overview

The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about the issues and safety concerns in performing our work in an environment involving a Weapons of Mass Destruction and/ or Terrorism (WMD/T) incident. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by disaster workers performing duties in this environment.

 

Shelter Operations
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross and other agencies' staff to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of disaster.

 

Shelter Simulation
The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation..
