Ellen Korpar of Wayside - Disaster Services Volunteer Hero

As our disaster services volunteer hero, Ellen Korpar exemplifies the true spirit of a hero. Ellen’s reliability and willingness to lend her hand and heart make her a cherished piece to the Jersey Coast volunteer family. Ellen first became involved with the Red Cross in September 2005 after seeing the devastation from Hurricane Katrina.

Her giving spirit then kicked into action as she became a disaster volunteer for the Jersey Coast Chapter. Now as a member of the Volunteer Lead Team, Ellen has responded to numerous local disasters including fires, building collapses, and search and rescue actions.  While on her assignments she has been a supervisor, shelter manager and bulk distribution supervisor. When our Disaster Operations Center was open 24-7 during the recent February winter storms, Ellen could always be found at the chapter working diligently.

She has worn a variety of hats, from working on Wall Street and serving on the Board of Directors for the Corporate Bond Traders Club of New York, to fundraising for children’s organizations and participating in the Avon walk for Breast Cancer. Ellen has also been a member of the Women’s Club of Red Bank since 2000 and is responsible for several charitable events around the Red Bank area.

Ellen Korpar, we thank you for being an asset to our chapter, our community and for always being someone to count on whenever the need may arise. You are a dependable woman with courage, compassion and kindness and our disaster team is stronger because of you.
